Last night, the Chicago Cubs broke a 108 year dry spell and won game seven of the World Series. Many people credit the team's president of baseball operations, Theo Epstein, with building a team that could take the championship. He also endeared himself to election-fatigued Americans by dousing Cubs fan Bill Murray with champagne post game (and maybe, sort of dropping an F-bomb on national television). Here's what you need to know about the man who helped both the Red Sox and the cubby bears go all the way.

He's partially responsible for the Cubs' legendary win.

Epstein is President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs. Breaking a jinx referred to as the "Curse of the Billy Goat," the Cubs won the World Series for the first time in 108 years last night.

He's called the curse breaker.

This isn't the first post-series champagne celebration in Epstein's career. In 2004, he led the Boston Red Sox to their first World Series victory in 86 years — breaking the "Curse of the Bambino." (The Cubs' jinx was referred to as the "Curse of the Billy Goat.")

He broke a record — off the field.

After the Red Sox hired him in 2002, Epstein became the youngest general manager in the history of major league baseball at just 28 years old.

Baseball is his first love.

Epstein grew up in Brookline Massachusetts (a mile away from Fenway Park), where he played baseball for the Brookline High School Warriors. He always dreamed of working for the Red Sox.

He went to Yale, where he wrote about sports.

Epstein was Sports Editor for the Yale Daily News in the early 1990s, and wrote an article calling for the removal of Yale's longtime football coach, Carmen Cozza. In an interview with the New York Times, Cozza reflected on the sting: "Obviously, he's no friend of mine and I certainly don't wish him well, but I understand how students are. They want notoriety."

And notoriety Epstein got.

He went to law school while working full time.

Juggling law school at UC San Diego and his almost full-time job with the Orioles, Epstein appears superhuman to fans. In an interview with the Washington Post, however, Epstein claimed he didn't go to class.

He's a family man.

Epstein is seen here with his wife Marie Whitney, creative director for Two Penny Blue. There are rumors the couple were married on Red Sox owner John Henry's yacht. The couple have two sons, Andrew and Jack.

The event was for his own charity!

Epstein is the co-founder of Foundation to Be Named Later (a spin on Player to be Named Later, a Major League Baseball convention in which the terms of a trade are not finalized until a later date). The organization's mission is to improve the education and the health of youth and families.

He has a twin.

Born 60 seconds before Theo, twin brother Paul Epstein saw his brother's success as a chance to help impoverished youth in the Boston area. He is the other co-founder of the Foundation to Be Named Later.
